eLearning Course Summary

This 1.5hr eLearning course for Northern Communities shares basic level knowledge for staff, leaders and elected officials on infrastructure planning and climate adaptation in a northern context. It explains the "why" and the "what" of infrastructure asset management, providing participants with the knowledge to begin their asset management journeys .

The training contains several case studies of communities who explain the progress they've made and how they're approaching current challenges. Additionally, the training points to several existing resources developed to support communities in Canada's North with their infrastructure planning efforts.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain how decades of decisions have contributed to the current state of infrastructure in Northern Canada

  • Identify compounding factors that further complicate infrastructure decisions.

  • Describe key concepts of Asset Management including asset registry, life cycle cost, risk management (including climate), and levels of service and how they apply to decision making.

  • Articulate the benefits of improved Asset Management practices for my community and organization including equity, inclusion and reconciliation.

  • Outline the steps to begin your Asset Management journey and identify key resources to support the process.
